General Discussion / Grrrr!!!
June 04, 2010, 09:36:36 PM
For the record, Caelan hates drug pushers and ad bots!

There are times when new forum members try to entice us with introductions and act as if they are interested in the shard. Then, upon further observation, Caelan discovers they are just pushing drugs or something else from some website, and using us as a vehicle to sell their wares. I just banned one such user.

So, if you see a post from a new user and they have some drug related name or a website on their profile that links to a site that sells stuff, don't bother getting too chummy with them. Chances are I am going to ban them once I see it.

I am going to log on at some random time and kill everyone (except staff) that happens to be on at that moment...

Why?

Because I am so far behind on my death quota!

It's that time again!

Just when you thought it was safe to venture near small bodies of water, the masked murderer jumps out and makes you think otherwise!

That's right, for the final Friday the 13th of the year, Jason Vorhees will be out and about to slay any frisky campers who might consider going for a swim in their birthday suits!

You've been warned...

General Discussion / We Need You!
November 10, 2009, 02:01:40 PM
Recently, we have noticed a significant drop in player activity. I know we have had some issues with lag and the shard was down for a while, but I'm not sure why the numbers have gone down so much.

This is where you come in!
We need you, our players, to give us some input so we can come up with ways to make a change for the better. Knowledge is power and we cannot move ahead if we don't know what needs to be done.

Now, a few questions and comments...

Why are players not in the game as much as they have been previously?

Is it a personal issue?

Connection issues?

Real life?

Boredom?

Tell us!

Is there something that staff can do to get you back in the game and actively playing?

Do you want more RP, and if so, are you willing to help make that RP possible for more players to join in on?

Is there a favorite event that you look forward to participating in that isn't getting done as often as you would like?

Do we need something new to peak your interest and lure you out of your homes and out into the wild and wonderful lands?

As most of you know, we do not have a scriptor, so we are limited in what we can do.
However, there is more to the game then scripts and we have been able to accomplish a lot with a little imagination and player input.

Are you voting and getting the word out that we have a great shard and we want even more players to make it even better?

Myrick has put a challenge out there and he will make it worth your time to vote people!

So vote!

Tell your friends to vote!

Drag your friends in the game and take them to Fel and laugh as they get murdered by mobs!

It's all good!

Our numbers are down...let's help get them back up!
Votes for the shard are down...get out and vote so more people know we exist!
New player numbers are down...tell everyone you know that this is the shard to play!

So, give us your feedback and let's get Sylvan Heart busy!

Okay, I am giving this its very own post because of all the crap I did for what turned out to be a simple fix to get Razor to work when connecting to Sylvan Heart with UOGateway using the Windows XP operating system.

I had overpatched UO and had graphic glitches which made terrain in areas have gaps in the ground and I saw things that where not on our maps in the game. I got tired of the glitches and decided to uninstall and reinstall the game. My game CD apparently died on me, and I couldn't reinstall it. I am on dial up and downloading the game would have taken days for me to do and the files would have been corrupted because of disconnections etc... Acacia, being the Bunny Goddess that she is, sent me a brand new copy of the game for the version I had (UO:SE) and I was able to install it with no problem. *bows and kisses the feet of the Bunny Goddess*

I figured I had somehow corrupted my registry files and went to drastic measures. I did the unthinkable: a reformat of my computer, completely wiping everything out and starting fresh from the ground up.

Now, I have been playing UO for years and I have uninstalled and reinstalled this game more times then I care to mention. So, for those who may be so inclined to ask, this is not my first go round at all of this.

Anyway, I did everything the way I had done it in the past after I reformatted and got my basic programs installed and updated my pc. I downloaded .NET Framework 1.1, installed and updated UO and its patches up to 5.0.6, installed UOGateway, and installed the older version of Razor (1.0.0.20552).

Then, when I tried to connect using UOGateway with Razor, I got the error message *CLR 80004005* for Razor, which promptly terminated Razor and closed it down, yet still allowed me to connect to the shard to play the game.

When I looked for information about this Razor error and asked around, people had told me to go to admin mode and reset the compatibility mode. I was lost, because I misunderstood the whole admin mode thing. I am the only one on my computer, so my pc is always in admin mode for me. I thought people where telling me to somehow set Razor to admin mode, and didn't see that option anywhere in Razor so I couldn't figure out how to change it.

*Edit:This can be found by right clicking the program icon (the ".exe") and selecting "Run as..." and selecting "Administrator". It is not in the properties section, which is where I personally kept looking to change the setting. I did not have to alter this setting myself to fix things.*

Okay, next issue: .NET Framework 1.1

People told me it was a .NET Framework issue. That I must have installed other .NET Framework versions and that was causing the problems. I only needed .NET Framework 1.1 for the game to work, all others would cause me issues and should be uninstalled. Okay, this may be true with Vista *spits* but, it's not true with Windows XP. On my other pc, as well as this one, I had all versions of .NET Framework up to 3.5 installed and never had this problem before. I uninstalled and reinstalled .NET Framework, several times, and still Razor would not work for me.

So, on to the fix...

You go to your Razor icon, right click and scroll down to properties and click on that. Go to the tab that says "Compatibility" and check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and scroll down the list and try ALL of the versions in the list, one at a time, hitting apply and okay for each one as you test it, until you find the one that works for you.

I had already tried all of the compatibility versions except one... Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5). That is the one that eventually worked for me. I had never had Windows NT and on my other pc,  I never had to change the compatibility mode in order to get Razor to work before. I'm still not sure why I had to use it on this pc now, because when I had the game running before the reformat, Razor worked just fine.

Anyway, long story even longer, if you get the Razor "CLR 80004005 error" message, try switching the compatibility mode on Razor, while your computer is in admin mode, to the Razor compatibility mode that works for you.

As long as you have .NET Framework 1.1 installed, it doesn't matter if other .NET Framework versions are installed because they are each separate programs that I am told work independently of each other and should not cause a conflict with the Windows XP operating system and UO.

I have the game patched correctly now, no graphics glitches, and all versions of .NET Framework are installed on my computer up to version 3.5. Razor works, the game works, and now I have all my macros back!

By the way, for all of the problems I encountered, as always, I blame Link!

*laughs like the demented jester that I am!*

I have tried, without success, to download this file from the links given in several posts for UO Gateway not recognizing the client.

The link does not work and I have screwed up my game and need it.

HELP!!!

Thanks...

General Discussion / Virginia
July 23, 2009, 02:40:05 PM
Last week, I went on a lil mission from East Texas to Manhattan, New York by car. I don't get out much, by the way, so this was a major ordeal. I just have to relate this to anyone and everyone who might read this...

Virginia is the most beautiful place on the face of this earth I have ever seen in my entire life!

When I grow up, I want to live there! I want a log cabin on a mountain that when you step outside you can touch the clouds!
There are no words to describe how beautiful this place is! I only saw a fraction of it, but I was very impressed!

I highly recommend hitting Skyline Drive and going through the mountains. Vacation in Virginia!

*still all tingly from the views*

General Discussion / Welcome to the Jungle!

When I read some of the remarks in the forums made by discontented players, I can only wonder at what they hope to achieve.

I am not talking about valid points being made about something that has occurred. I am referring to wild rants that berate others and intentionally fail to disclose pertinent information as to why things happened.

Recently, Sylvan Heart has been bombarded by several posts made by a few disgruntled players. They have gone out of their way to try to discredit, threaten, and insult staff, as well as other players. They are even using messenger and voice programs and their own websites to communicate these tirades to others as well.

It would be easy for a new player or forum member to read these posts and come to the conclusion that Sylvan Heart is not a place worth playing. It's just as easy for regular players, who do not have access to the specifics, to form the same opinion. It is for them that I make this post.

Sylvan Heart is more then then the sum a few disenchanted players make it out to be. We are a shard of players and staff that value each other. We are not here to tolerate the behavior a few choose to engage in that diminishes the environment of the shard or debases others.

We are here to enjoy the game and the family atmosphere that has been created over the years. It is an outlet for many, a way to relax, and home away from home filled with friends we've grown to know and love.

We are not here to abandon the guidelines that this shard has used, since it began, in order to appease the objections of a few who apparently cannot coexist with others in an appropriate manner.

If you want to curse, berate, threaten, and insult people, cheat, use exploits, or obtain information from former staff members to acquire things, this is not the shard for you. If you want to ignore staff and make false accusations against them because you've been caught engaging in such activities, this is not the shard for you.

I, for one, would not continue playing on a shard if it held even a fraction of some of the claims that have been made against Sylvan Heart. I see no reason why players, who are obviously unhappy, would remain if the complaints they have stated held any truth. There are HUNDREDS of other shards out there that you can play on for free. Many have auto account creation. If you do not like playing on Sylvan Heart, and Sylvan Heart does not suit your needs, then maybe someplace else will.

For those of you who continue to play, and abide by the standards of Sylvan Heart without creating drama for the sake of drama, I thank you. You are the reason I remain here, not only as staff, but also as a player.

With the earthquakes in Italy, and knowing that at least 287 people lost their lives, just curious to know if you're okay.

Your dysfunctional Sylvan Heart family is concerned.

Players have stated they are unable to log into game and that if they're in the game and disconnect they are unable to log back in. This has been happening nightly, at least since March 31st, around the same time each night.

The message "There is some problem communicating with Origin. Please restart Ultima Online and try again." appears when players try to log into the game.

Not sure what is going on.
