Roleplay Discussion / Re: Dark Times
October 05, 2007, 09:13:23 PM

Another odd happenstance occured this past Tuesday.

I stopped by my friend Rease Hunter's tavern on my way home from hunting evil out in the wilds for a quick Pratertian Ale and some conversation among friends. Things were going fine untill he mentioned a little book that a traveler had given him as he was passing through the meadows. Intrigued I asked him if i could see it.
It appears to be a book talking about the Lord of Luck and how everything that happens happens according to this "luck lord's" wishes. This struck me as a little odd and so I asked him if I could keep the book for a few days to see what I could learn about this mysterious figure.

On the surface the text appears to be nothing more than a simple book of children's rymes my gut tells me that this text is a clue to a powerful being. I am going to go visit a very old Scholar friend of mine, hopefully he can help me with this matter.

Journal Entry #6823
Phoenix

The past few weeks have brought with them some interesting changes and along with them  some sorrows.  Although that is to be expected I suppose when a Dark Lord of Evil arises and begins to wreak havoc.  *chuckles* I suppose I should start at the beginning otherwise my grandchildren will not know what I am talking about when I eventually give them this journal to read.

Well, about a week ago now my Tailor and best friend Jager invited me over for some drinks and a friendly game of darts. We had a really good time hanging out and trying to hit a picture of..... well... lets just say a picture of someone *chuckles*. Towards the end of the night Jager began withdrawing and would just sit there with a mug of the Pratertian's finest and stare off into the distance. Seeing that my friend was in a world of his own I began to quietly clean up the mess and prepared to take my leave. As I was gathering my gear to leave though, he came over and laid a hand upon my arm saying, "Wait a moment my friend, I need to ask a horrible favor of you."  This came as sort of a surprise to me as he is usually never drawn or gloomy, yet his face was a mask of pain and there were tear streaks lining his face as he stood there slightly swaying.

Phoenix: Of Course my friend, What is it that I can help you with?
Jager: I have been troubled as of late. My dreams have been dark and my days
Jager:  shadowed with the guilt that suffocates me without end.

He leads me back over to the chair I had occupied and bis me to re-take my seat.

Jager: As you might have heard I found my brother's old suit of armor up in the
Jager: attic. It reminded me of the life which he once led and the good that he did for the
Jager: good of all.
Phoenix: *nods* Aye, your brother and the rest of the Forces of The Light managed to shut
Phoenix: away the Evil One for a good long time. It is unfortunate that he is now beginning
Phoenix: to regain his power. He must have somehow manged to convince some poor people to
Phoenix: give him their souls.
Jager: *nearly breaks down* Aye my friend, and yours I believe,  Manamana has been
Jager: converted to the dark ways, as has Asimon and who knows who else.
Phoenix: *starts* No way! They have pledged their souls to HIM?
Jager: I do not know for sure, But A few days ago they both attacked and tried to kill Link of Urak
Jager: And I have heard that the Fair Serenity was nearly killed by her fiancee' Manamana.
Jager: She is devastated.
Phoenix:     :O  Thus I imagine. Tis definitely horrible news.

Jager: Which brings me to the horrible favor that I need to ask of you.
Phoenix: *cautiously* I will do what is in my power to do my friend.
Jager: I tried my best to revitalize The Empire of Sosaria, yet I am always too busy to run a
Jager: guild. And I am not strong at all. I would not be able to lead any hunts or organize any rescues
Jager: But you my friend. You are strong enough. You seem to be well liked by those in our community.
Jager: If I ask it would you take over leadership of The Empire and lead it to greatness?
*long silence*
Phoenix: If you ask it of me, I will do so. But I caution that I have not lead a guild before, I would have to
Phoenix: follow your lead for a while. I am a follower, not exactly a leader.
Jager: *tearing with relief* I do ask it of you my friend. I hate to have to, but these are difficult times
Jager: That we are entering and especially if our two friends have pledged themselves to serve evil
Jager: then we will have to be strong and brave enough to weather this sorrow on the horizon.
Phoenix: *nods* These will be difficult times indeed.....

Thus is how my friend Jager transfered leadership of the Forces of The Light to myself. All the current guild members agreed with his decision, but I must admit I have my doubts about how well I will do. I just hope that I will be strong enough to bear this burden. The need for a strong leader was never proven to me as well as they were this past Saturday. It was then that I met Asimon for he first time since I learned of his treachery. I met him in the meadow trying to recruit unsuspecting travelers and townsfolk into serving his master. Disgusted by his actions and his behavior I stepped up and confronted him about his decision to serve The Evil One. I attempted to explain him what happened to others in the past who gave up everything good and holy for "power".

He was convinced that he was in the right though, and no amount of discussion would convince him otherwise. Yes he knew what had happened to those before him, yet he pointed out the mistakes that they made and the reasons for their "punishment" by his mater.  I hadn't intended for this discussion to become a public spectical but after we had been arguing for a while I noticed that we had drawn a crowd of onlookers. They were listening to our heated debate and were remaining silent. I instantly became self-conscious of th attention and the sentence i had been uttering died half-formed. Asimon also seemed to notice the crowd for the first time, but unlike myself he instantly returned to trying to recruit for his master again. But most of the onlookers would have none of it. They either ignored him completely or began to take up where I had left off in the argument. I am not quite sure how it happened, I think it was Ironhand declaring his devotion to the light and his desire for me to lead them against the dark tides of evil that slowly encroach upon our lives with out us noticing. Before I knew it I was surrounded by several fellow Sylvanites all pledging their loyalty to me in my fight against The Evil One and his minions.

I tried to tell them that I didn't really want to create a war where none had been for a long time, but they didn't want to listen. They wanted to stamp out this rot that was forming on our doorsteps and they seemed to want me to lead this crusade. I told them we shall see, but I think I am ready to organize resistance to the wishes of this "Dark Lord" and return our fair lands to the glory of the Light. I will not turn away anyone who wants to rid the world of this Abraxius. I shall do my best to train them and outfit them for the tasks ahead. Only time will tell if I chose the right path. My judges will be you my grandchildren, so if I fail in this effort try to think of me as one who wanted to do good.

Announcements / Welcome all the recent new players
October 04, 2007, 05:56:19 PM
Welcome to our home and our  addiction.

I have run into several of you thus far and just wanted to give a welcome.  I do not know if this is the case with everyone, but a majority of the new players that I have talked to are from the recently defunct Age of Avatars.  I know Greywolf to an extent, and I know he will be working to try to restore his shard. Having played on AoA myself for a while I know what he had there and just how much he has to rebuild and how difficult it will be to return to normal.  Additionally, I feel that even though he had some interesting customs  Sylvan's are better, also the players are much nicer here and the economy/shard is a lot more balanced.

As one who has played both shards, feel free to pm me in-game or on these forums with any questions. I should be able to explain any concept that you should wonder about.

Anywhoo welcome to our home and I hope that you like it here.

Just a few differences from the top of my head:
--> No rez proection. (if you ask for help over public chat there will be someone who will come help you)
--> Caster character templates are not as powerful here.
--> Atonements are roughly equal to tokens and VS's are roughly equal to Supertokens
--> Leveling and level points are roughly equal to Sockets and Augments. They boost your character and his abilities.
--> There is a profanity filter here and it will auto jail you if you use any curse words. (very small amount of jail rock to mine)
--> Macroing is allowed as long as it is not in a public place and it isn't making you money.

Jager/ Shanerous Loreth/ Phoenix

P.S.: There is no player like Pape  here thank goodness.

Are you sure you were using the triple slash custom weapon skill? Because it doesn't check for bushido at all...

Roleplay Discussion / A Night at the Pratertian
October 03, 2007, 04:57:49 AM
It was a relatively normal evening, just the usual slaying of evil and aiding of those in distress.  Lord Phoenix, the newly instituted Regent of the Empire of Sosaria, on his way back home stops by at his friend Rease Hunter's Tavern in the center of MarketVale for a quick chat with friends over a cold glass of  chocolate squirrel milk.  While there, a scrawny cat wandered in and over to the fire. As it sat there warming itself with the fire flickering behind it, Phoenix couldn't help but notice the odd way in which it sat. For it didn't sit as most ordinary cats would.  As he was sitting on the bar stool  the cat felt his gaze upon her and looked up, and on locking gazes the cat streaked over and jumped onto the bartop scattering goblets of chocolate milk everywhere.

It is here that we begin our story. Following is a transcript of this night's events.

Punkin: *knocks squirrel milk bottle over*
Jazmyn: oops
Punkin: *laps up spilled milk*
Rayne Hunter: need some help back there?
Jazmyn: we spilled the milk
Phoenix: *nods*
Punkin: *gets paw in milk*
You drink the milk, and begin to feel more satiated.
*not the spilled milk, but the one in my pack before the cat could spill that one*
Punkin: *shakes paw*
Jazmyn: *looks for rag*
Punkin: Mrph
Phoenix: *laughs*
Biki Tarber: heh
Rayne Hunter: *grabs a bar rag*
Jazmyn: Thank you Rayne
Punkin: *rubs against her legs*
Rayne Hunter: your welcome....
Rayne Hunter: *reaches down to pet the kitty*
Jazmyn: we had a milk issue
Phoenix: *chuckles*
Rayne Hunter: *whips up the smelly milk*
Jazmyn: silly cat
Punkin: Mrow?
Phoenix: Odd color for a cat
Jazmyn: *wipes dress with bar napkin*
Punkin: *is offended at being called silly cat*
Phoenix: Dont believe I have met that breed before
Rayne Hunter: *pats the kittys head*
Rayne Hunter: its all right,
Punkin: *knows she's a special calico breed*
Phoenix: *laughs*
Jazmyn: the kitty almost matchs you phoenix
Phoenix: *nods* Special yup... That sounds like it fits
Phoenix: Aye
Phoenix: That is sorta scary
Phoenix: 0.o
Punkin: *wonders how the human can read her thoughts*
Phoenix: Why? Cant everyone?
Phoenix: *confused*
Phoenix: It seemed as clear as day to me
Punkin: Mroow!
Phoenix: Jaz?
Jazmyn: yes?
Phoenix: Can you understand her?
Punkin: *startled that the human male can understand her*
Jazmyn: actually
Jazmyn: no
Jazmyn: sorry
Phoenix: Hmm
Jazmyn: are you ok?
Rayne Hunter: lets see if i can get you some milk
Phoenix: That might have been some off squirrel milk Rease gave me
Punkin: *backs up a bit*
Phoenix: *eyes the empty glass warily*
Phoenix: Hmm
Punkin: *eyes the human male*
Phoenix: I hope that was chocolate!
Phoenix: I drank it rather fast
Phoenix: Didnt smell it
Phoenix: *wonders if it was a potion of some kind*
Rayne Hunter: never know when Rease grabs stuf
Punkin: *looks at her muddy paws*
Punkin: *wonders if she muddied up his milk*
Punkin: mew
Punkin: *lifts paw*
Phoenix: *faints*
Jazmyn: *thinking very glad the kitty spilled my milk*
Phoenix: You sure you gave me the right glass Rease?
Phoenix: I can understand everything that cat is thinking!!
*Rease is tackled by the scrawny cat*
Rayne Hunter: woah!
Rease Hunter: @_@ ACK!
Punkin: *knocks him down*
Rease Hunter: *is tackled by the kitty

A Twin Remembered

As I was sorting through the various chests in my attic, as I usually do once a month, I happened to notice a false panel behind a haphazardly stacked backpack of old short spears. Now I this definitely struck me as odd since I had never seen this before and I thought I knew everything about this house, since my twin brother and I built it after all.  As I moved the backpack out of the way my mind wandered back into the past to the days when my twin had fought with these spears. So long ago it was, yet the memories and the pain of his death flood back into my mind as if it had happened yesterday.

As great pains often to, this one had faded with time to a weak flickering flame of regret in the back of my mind.  As I looked into the backpack I recognized one of the spears by its pale blue glow. It was the first weapon that my novice hands had crafted in an attempt to keep my brother safe during his  hunts.  I laid it aside with a mental promise to take it downstairs and display it, and continued unearthing the hidden panel.   It took some time, yet I preservered and shortly I had cleared my way to it. As I got closer and brushed off the cobwebs my heart skipped a beat for carved in the panel, no doubt by my brother's very hand, was the seal of the Empire of Sosaria.

Immediately the memories flooded in with remorse and anger hot on their heels.  Sorrow flooded my mind, but was soon burned away as is the morning mist in the heat of the sun beneath my anger towards that  devious Black Lich.  The self proclaimed Lord of All Creation and Master of the Dark Arts.

"Abraxius.... " I grind out through clenched teeth.... Instantly I am comforted by a warm ethereal wind as my brother's ultimate sacrafice resaures me that The Evil One has been safely imprisoned in the City of Umbra.  I know not whether my brother's sacrifice comforts anyone else, but I know that for me atleast The Evil One's name carries a taboo for anyone who says it with relish.

Bolstered by my confidence that Evil is being held at bay, I try to open the fake wall panel. Decades of unuse  have made the hidden mechanism a little sticky, but once the catch has been released the panel slides smoothly into the wall.  It is dark, but dry, and as I move my lantern closer the shadows melt away revealing a treasure more priceless to be than anything I can think of off hand. Believed by all to be destroyed by the Evil One as he tore the beating heart out of my twin, there stacked before me was the armor that my brother had lived and died in.  Breathless I hung the lantern on a peg and scooped up the helmet, and as I turned it over in my hands my disbelieving eyes tried to accept that this priceless family heirloom was before me.

After a few moments of staring stupidly at the helmet my brain finally returned to working order and my gaze swept the small cubbord.  Yes,  there was everything: the short spear his shield and all his armor, even his porcelain swampie that carried him all over the lands.  Nearly unnoticed by the right boot was a small blue book. Curiously I picked it up and dusted off the cover. On the front was written in Icemere's own scrawl were the words: "I am sorry".  Hurriedly turning the cover, almost ripping it off, I read the quick scribble on the first page:

"My dear friend, and twin to my most loyal guard and adviser, I am sorry that I did not come and tell you what happened to the personal effects of your twin after he was slain. I wanted to, but after seeing you at the funeral I realized that  returning your beloved brothers armor and weapons at that time would have completely broken you. " I quickly turn the page, " So I stopped by one night when you were asleep and using the spare key that Jager (Ed Note: The hunter) had given me, I stole up to the attic and stored all of his personal effects in the secret compartment that he had once showed me.  Soon I shall tell you, Once this knowledge will no longer pain you as great as it does now..."

Icemere Frostblade
                                                               Imperial Regant & Ruler
                                                               Empire of Sosaria

As I finish reading the last sentence, I rock back on my heels and slump against the wall lost in thought.  Time passes, how much I know not, but as I stand back up the realization comes over me that I am the last of this honorable and noble guild. Though I was a lowly tailor back in the Golden Days of The Light, my brother was second to only Regent Icemere himself and I come from the same stock. Our parents raised us to be scions of good and always help those less fortunate than ourselves.  I have always tried to do that throughout my life. I have cut some really good deals for those who are still new here, and I have given discounts to those who couldn't pay right then.

As I think back over my life I realize that I have not fufilled my destiny. My brother was always the natural leader and he was in line to take over the Regency after Icemere retired, but he never got the chance. The Evil One saw to that. I know that it was my brother's wish that I was to rule in his stead if anything ever happened to him, and it is only the misty veil of time that obscured my memory of this from my eyes. As I look once more at the empty armor  stacked there on the floor I realize that Icemere is never coming back from his retirement voyage. I realize that the once Great and Mighty Empire of Sosaria is not the scion of Light and Justice that it once was.

A heavy weight settles upon my shoulders as I realize that bringing this Regency back together is the one last thing remaining for me to do before I can go on a retirement voyage of my own.  I carefully gather up the armor and tie it up in my twin's cloak. The armor has been preserved well from the ravages of time by the guarding magics that were originally cast upon it, most of it is in good condition. A little work and restoration along with some new enchantments of my own and this armor will be ready for the next Imperial Regent of Sosaria.
