Wish List / Re: This might help
September 21, 2012, 07:02:47 AM
None shall have my shinies but me!! I am one of those who many have spoken about as being a veteran to this shard. Although I haven't logged in for ages now, I have asked our most generous shard keeper to make sure that my home and all of my beloved shinies within to remain intact until the day that I return to enjoy them once again. Our shard keeper has most graciously accepted to protect them for me of which I am most grateful for.

I know there are other veterans out there who would rather their hard work and accomplishments remain a shrine to what they have done on this shard and for this shard than to let it all slip away either to other players or into nothingness even if they had no plans on ever returning. So hopefully I serve as the voice of all the past players that may have long forgotten or maybe just lost their way in the world outside of Sylvan who feel the same way I do about our possessions here in this land.

One day, hopefully soon, I will return to Sylvan. Until then anyone is welcome to visit my home which is located just outside of Luna just where I expect it to be when I do return.  :D

General Discussion / Re: Back in the day!
September 09, 2012, 04:54:25 AM
Back in the day when you started out with a practice sword that stayed in your pack even after death unless you removed it or trashed it. I would watch Karina infiltrate people at the bank in Brit with a little trick he learned. He played a character named Killer which was a rogue/thief. He would apply deadly poison to his practice sword & would fight a guild member at the brit bank (not with sword) until he died & he would have his corpse baited with a few simple shinies. After quickly getting resurrected he would run back to the bank & his guild mate would pretend to loot his corpse to bait another player into looting it. Once the other player would loot the corpse they would immediately turn grey making it so anyone could attack them. Karina would then take the opportunity to attack the player (still in death robes, but brandishing his poisoned practice sword) once hit the deadly poison would do the rest of the work on the player. It was hilarious watching the other player scrambling to put their armor & loot into the bank before they died (and they died in mere seconds). Once dead he would open his bank and loot everything from the player since their corpse was grey & lootable by anyone. The other player would then run to get a rez but if they didn't wait to turn green before getting a rez they would die numerous times trying to retrieve their corpse. Sometimes there would be numerous suckers to this trick at once & he made a killing on the loot doing this. A few of those players would go after Karina's character attacking him time & time again after getting rezzed dying several times over. The ground would be littered with corpses & all the players around would cheer him on all the while this was going on. That was probably his best & fondest memories of UO back in the day.

Back in the day when you had a house key to lock up your house. Karina would use a different character for the tricks he did once he obtained a house key from another player, yet again another opportunity for him to get loot from other players.

Back in the day when players would transfer items from character to character in the inns. This is the one I took advantage of when I played. I trained in hiding & would hang out at inns waiting for players to transfer their items. Some players were smarter than others & would walk around the room trying to find the spot you were hiding in because you couldn't walk thru a hidden character. But I still looted a lot of bags from players in the inns.

There are many more stories Karina could tell you of his adventures back in the day. He & his guild mates were very ingenious when it came to relieving other players of their loot with & without resorting to PKing. But since I would watch him play my memory isn't as good as his when it comes to explaining his tricks so I'll leave it up to him if he wants to come & tell his stories.

I caught the final post on the forums just a day before they were shutting down the server. I'm glad I didn't have too much time invested on anything there, I really didn't have the time to spend on gaining skills and stats plus with the operating system I have on my PC it made it even harder to connect sometimes. Now when I click on my link for the forums of the other shard I just get the Sylvan website rather than the forums. There is a place to enter your username and password, but I don't remember what mine was and none of my usual ones work.
I never removed anything from this server so as long as Cypress kept my account from being deleted I should still have all my shinies intact here. I still haven't figured out how to connect with this server either using my current operating system so until I do that or finally get Karina to put Windows 7 on my PC I won't be logging in in the near future. So Cypress if your reading this would you be so kind as to keep holding onto my account if it's still around until I get things worked out on my end. Thanks!

Hiya pup! I still stalk the forums but still haven't worked out the kinks with my computer to get Sylvan running. I think I will continue to have problems until my husband decides to install an OS on my PC that is more compatible with the things I do. I can't stand having Win2k 64 bit. I can't even install iTunes on this damn thing and my whole music library is on it.

Good to hear your still around. *Tosses a treat in the air*

General Discussion / Re: Gremlins in my keyboard
March 03, 2010, 06:19:20 AM
You know, I have a keyboard that has similar problems with it when I try assigning macro's to the F keys in Sylvan. I don't use it anymore because of that reason. I don't know the specifics on the keyboard like model number off hand but I'm pretty sure it too is a Logitech. It's nothing like yours, but the reason I had bought it was because of it's built in usb hub right in the keyboard, just so I wouldn't have to keep plugging in my usb flash drive in the back of my case all the time.
It worked great outside UO, but as soon as I started adding macro's it got all funky on me with the darn F keys. I just figured it had something to do with it's configuration because of the usb hub installed in it that created the issues I was having. Even when I had Karina check it out she couldn't figure out what was wrong. So I just went and bought another keyboard and got myself a usb hub with a long cord to plug in the back of my case to ease my headaches. The keyboard now collects dust hehe.

Where were you hunting? I know places like Terathan Keep there are rival mob wars going on and if you loot something that another mob killed first you will turn gray.

No your forum approval is not your an account approval. You will need to send Acacia a pm with your desired user name and password so she can get an account set up for you. She will then return your pm and confirm that it is all set up.

I am currently only patched up to 5.0.6 but I don't know if anyone else patches higher. And as far as the port for Razor I am unsure because I always use Gateway to connect and the port for Gateway is 1980 as you stated.

Be patient with Acacia, she too has a real life but she will return your pm as quickly as she can. Welcome aboard!

Events / Re: Shard Christmas Party
December 20, 2009, 12:21:06 AM
I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend the party. Karina and I ventured out to do some x-mas shopping this morning and ended up the next state over at a mall we knew had the store we were looking for. Before we even got there it started snowing and by the time we left the roads were covered and the snow hadn't let up. We had one hell of a trip home in our little rear wheel drive sporty car especially when we hit the highway behind people who came to near stops on the hills. If any had experience driving in the snow in a rear wheel drive sports car, you know the feeling. Once your moving you don't want to stop, especially on the hills. We had a small close call about 5 miles away from home, but Karina is a great driver and was able to steer the car back on path and we got home safely. It's still snowing out and we aren't going anywhere in that car till the roads are good and clear so I should be logging on sometime tonight for the goodies and to deliver my secret Santa present.

There is no need to close and reopen the windows to vote. Right next to where you type the words there is a funny little symbol with 2 curved arrows, click on that and it will reselect the words. Keep clicking it till you find something you can make out, that is what I always do when I can't figure out what those funny squiggly lines say.
