Title: parry skill
Post by: Festus on September 20, 2013, 11:29:42 AM
I wonder if Parry at 120 are skill points well used.  I do not use a shield so I wonder if parry is doing me any good.  Mostly I use evasion or confidence when in battle with higher end stuff.  As a weapon skill I use lumberjack and swords to swing an axe.  Im considering dropping parry for archery.  Comments anyone?? Please be honest.  There has to be a way for a warrior to beat down a high end mob without constant death.

Yesterday I went to lost lands in felucca.  Its a long run.  After getting to my destination I met a boss and promptly died.  Even with confidence I was one hit killed.  With archery I may have been able to take her down.  The same issue is present at blood gud.  On hits me.

my hp is only 256 so maybe that's an issue also.  If its felt that I should increase hp then I guess I can socket my jewelry but im not sure that will give me enough hp to really make a difference.  Im still pretty ignorant when it comes to socketing.  My armor and weapon is all ancient amithist for damage increase.

What is your dexterity? I had my Hp over 300 and my dexterity was around 277 and I was experiencing the same issue you are. The fix for me was to get my Dex up to 299, by doing so my hp dropped to around 270 but I can fight most things without being instantly killed. The Blood god is still tough for me because he spawns balrons and I just cant heal fast enough once i get surrounded.
To Answer your other question i would not drop parrying if i were you. Without parrying your chance to block with Bushido will be seriously depleted making the super high dex i was talking about kinda moot... At least thats my understanding of it.

I know that as soon as i got my dex up to 299 it was like a switch went off and nothing could really hit me anymore, I can kill lots of guys that used to hit me once or twice and I would be dead, and that was with 277 dex. after the increase They just couldn't hit me.

and ya,,,I just checked and dex is only like 236.  I guess what I need to do again is hire someone to go over my gear and change and upgrade what is needed.

Emeralds Festus.  Legendary and Mythic emeralds in your armor and jewelry, jewelry with Dex bonus is a good start as well.  As close to 300 as you can get will give you better protection from damage.

One of the best tanks on the shard that I know of used only like 180 dex I think. He could defeat things that the "dex warriors" would likely be instantly and repeatedly killed by (such as two ancient forest guardians together in Fel  :o ). His skill amazed me.

I believe the strongest form of tank is the one having about 180 dex and enough HP to last through a nuke. Once that is achieved, go for 65 DCI, 45 HCI, 40 LMC, and at least 2 FC. Of course that is not all because great gear does not a legend make. You need to learn how to use your weapons affectively. When and how to use the abilities is vitally important. I seem to remember him using mainly a long spear. On top of that all that, remember to leech, leech, leech everything you can to the max! That includes HP and mana especially. Also, riding an armored swamp dragon is a good idea ;)

Damage is important, but if you can hit the 100 cap from items (which isn't hard) then you've probably got enough. As far as skills now, I'd suggest maybe:

120 parry
120 bushido
120 healing
120 anatomy
120 spirit speak
100 necromancy (then use jewelry to get higher for vamp form casting)
100-120 chivalry
20-40 magery (for food maybe or teleporting if needed... poison and fire fields are also nice if you can get high enough magery)
120 ninjitsu
120 tactics
120 melee weapon skill

If it is possible to have room to socket any of these skills into your jewelry (such as anatomy) then awesome and you can add some meditation for extra mana regeneration or lumberjacking (which can also be socketed) for extra damage if you use swords or even some magic resistance skill which is good against mobs using curses.

Also note, knowing how and when to use skills is extremely important. There seem to be many "spells" that are way underrated.

Well, as for mythics, its not going to happen soon.  After a year of playing I have gotten 0 mythics.   for the last month or two I have been doing tchests in dungeons with 1600 luck and still nothing so there must be a trick to mythic jems.  One that im not yet aware of.  I think I need to chum up to someone that knows how to find them and go back to school.  As for the post below about when and how to use skills?  Again, I need some schooling I guess.

Offers of school for me will be taken quiet seriously as its a bit discouraging to max out 1400 skill cap and have no better luck than when I ran with 1200 skills and no experience.  Maybe im just a terrible slow learner.  *shrugs shoulders*

Just another thought, but HLD and HLA (hit lower defense/attack) can also be pretty important.
