Since you cant have an honest, fair, non whining debate within the game. guess I will air my gripes here since Lamalas told me too.
1. why does some smart alec always have to accuse you of whining when you disagree with a gm in pub chat. Not aggreeing with someone does not consitute whining. simple means you disagree and everyone has the right to sway you left or right or to ask questions as to WHY the way something is.
2. why are all the gms so cranky all the time lately. Especially Lamalas and Thane. now granted you have your happy moments but lately sheesh more cranky then normal. Not to mention i had to page 2 times a night last few weeks to get something placed on auction simply cause no gms were even on.
3. I came em to play and made a joke about creating a mystery bag with 100 gold coins, 500 leather, and a pile of fake doggy do (aka a bag of crap) in it and was told it could be rejected by gms..... hello is it not a "mystery" bag.
when i bring up the point that Lotto contains junk. I am told that gms have no control over lotto..... Bullogneeee. You have just as much control over everything equal within this game. Then to boot I get told im whining by a fellow player and then , as normal, some other "cranky" gm pops in and tells everyone to quit talking... Ok so now 1 gm can butt in on another Gms conversation with a player and tell the player to shut up?????????
Now i hope that makes sense to you cause it makes absolutely none to me. I was so turned off that i said heck with it and logged out. and really had no intention of even coming in here to write this. but wth I was told i to take it to boards so According to gms this is ok in here. just not in pub chat.. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE???
it really seems lately like its a " im gonna have my cake and eat it in front of you so deal with it" attitude from some of the staff. and its a real let down and turn off into even playing anymore. and if you notice my game time has been going down considerable lately. now you know why. So for me to put alot of time into playing this shard sine Nov with raising money ( which is actually hard for me cause im no tamer /druid/tank ) and as some gms know put a ton of time into builing and decoing etc etc.. then to just start playing hardly at all. I hope speaks louder words then this.
in short : Life dictates that you cant have it both ways.. just some words of advice for everyone.
As far as staff relations with players go I cannot comment on that since I feel it is a problem for the admins to deal with. However I find I can comment on the auction/lotto problem you brought up. Staff is in no way in control of player based lotto systems because it is the individual player deciding what to put on their lotto and as with all lotto is a matter of chance. I know from personal experience on the subject that the vast majority of the lotto set up's in game are filled with mostly junk and have only one or two real prizes within the groupings.
Auctions are staff run (unless a player holds their own separate auctions at their house) and there we have control on what goes up. Items that a staffer feels will not sell we will say so and not put it up as it would only waste not only our time to do so but the time of the players that come to bid on the items. If you went to an auction house would you want to bid on a "mystery bag" and spend a significant amount of money and then get as you put it "a bag of crap"? or would you trust the auction house to have the decency to reject junk from the auction?
Your inquiry on it being OK to air your concerns and complaints on forums and not in game is as follows: Forums are set up so that questions, problems, and general chatter can be aired in a general format for all to see and so others can learn from the questions themselves as well as the answers and if a grievous wrong is committed, it can be dealt with with a general public knowledge that "Hey someone did this wrong and it was dealt with in X manner, Maybe we should be wary" and "Wow this problem was handled fast" and then most people will be happy. Granted not everyone will be happy but the general response will be good.
If there is anything else you wish to discuss along these lines I will gladly set time to do so with you, as I am pretty sure any staff member will when we have the time to do so between our duties and our lives.
Sincerely,
Garrick Sandor GM

Well, I know Lamalas has been working CRAZY amount of hours so if I was him I doubt I'd be all peachy right now. I have had health and family issues to take care of which have kept me from putting in many hours in game. We are down a couple of staffers right now and we are trying our best to take care of the players when we can. Acacia has been working her butt off answering pages and spending MORE hours than you'll ever know every day working on the shard. And maybe the cranky comment might have been better suited for a PM to the gms in question.
I still stand by what I said. If you ask to put junk on the auction, I will reject it. I have told players "no" before when placing "junk" on the auction. Yes, I know one man's junk is another man's treasure, but would you want to sit thru a no bid auction of a piece of jewelry with 3% Physical Resist? Neither would I, nor would I want to waste everyone else's time. The auctions take roughly 90 mins now. I'd hate to see that extended for a bunch of junk. If I had it my way I'd not let mystery bags be put up. I've seen some really good ones, but I've also seen a bag of junk sell for half a mil. That's just not cool.
I don't believe I could have said it any better than Garrick as to the mystery bags on the staff auction. We always look in those bags to see what is there. There are times I have told players that an item they have won't sell, or reserve price they are asking is too high. I believe it is our responsibliity to see that we aren't making a joke out of the auction. If you want to sell those kind of mystery bags, do it on your own vendor.
As to the whining, everyone has their opinion of what constitutes whining. Those that are doing the whining usually don't think they are. The old pharse is very true; Opinions are like "behinds"(insert the correct word here), everybody has one. The thing is, does that sort of thing need to be aired in public chat? Possibly take it to PMs in game. You are welcome to feel dissatisfied with a Staffer, but we deserve respect, whether you think so or not, and complaining about Staff over public chat is really not very good.
The GM staff we have on Sylvan are some of the best you will ever find on player run shards. That being said, we are also human with the issues of real life, making enough money to keep the lights on and gasoline in the car, and the internet connected. We are all in this boat. Staff also has to try and find some time to come in and be here with players who aren't always happy with what we do. Our Staff roster has been extra stressed lately because we have had several who have needed to take extended leaves of absence to deal with real life. I'm working on that. Stresses affect us all, and sometimes we just can't be happy campers. I have talked to Staff and asked that they try and watch themselves and their reaction with players. I would also ask that players do that same with Staff.
If you are having that much trouble with any Staffer, then you need to be sending me a private message, cause last time I checked, I was still the boss here.

That is my whole point, I wasnt dissatisfied or airing dirty laundry. I was disagreeing and making very valid points to try and grasp the staffers "opinions" on why some "mystery" bags are allowed and others are not. I agree with Aesa that should not even be allowed and the whole point to putting one on there with "junk" (really they are all junk) was so the maniacs would quit spending 1/2 million on a mystery bag. to me they are absolutely 100% no different then a lotto vendor. some are real junk yet you pay outrageous amounts for them. Bidding on mystery bags is no different then the slots. It is a Chance you take. So why are slots allowed if 80 perecent of the time you get nothing aka junk. That is my whole point. It seems the rules change to fit that particular situation, and I dont agree that it is the right thing. yes it is my opinion and everyone has one blah blah. but it still is a Valid argument.
anyway enough said i aired my gripe like i was told to do and its done and over with in my book because it is pointless to continue because what the staff says goes. right, wrong or otherwise. But, it doesnt mean i have to always roll over and agree with it or be happy about it.

I hope you do feel better for getting this off your chest. Staff does things with consideration for the good of the majority. There is NO WAY to do things that will make every single player happy. We don't go out of our way to do things to tick players off. But, for the most part, yes, what Staff says goes, cause it kind of needs to be that way for the shard to continue to run. No, you don't have to be happy about it, just like Staff isn't always happy about things that go on in game.
