Post by: EnigmaMaitreya on August 05, 2015, 09:05:17 PM
Reading the forums, I find myself wanting to ask if using UOSteam is ok?

I'm actually not familiar with that. I have used various programs but don't remember that one.

It was once upon a time ...

What is UOSteam? Is it a new project?

No, UOSteam is the essentially the same of AssistUO, it is not a new project. The reasons we quit AssistUO remains valid, we cannot afford the time and we do not have the will to continue developing an assistant.

Why not continuing on RunUO?

After I quit I thought Kraz would stay, but he said he was going to quit too, later I realized that the project was not going to continue being developed and there would be no support for our users because the RunUO team already have a lot on their plate. I preferred to be honest with you guys, that's why I said AssistUO wouldn't receives any further updates: no one was going to update it, despite we said they would.

What we didn't expected was this overwhelming repercussion, we - mostly Kraz, he always had been the head of our vibrant community - received TONS of emails, private messages, skype messages and stuff asking us to not halt development or, at least, give it support to client 7.0.33.1. We talked about it a few times and we decided to continue maintaining at least client compatibility. We also judged that would be better to disassociate from RunUO and make it a truly independent project for a few reasons, the main reason is that we may put someone to develop UOSteam, inside RunUO the process would be difficult because there is an entire community that could be affected in case something goes wrong or not the way the RunUO administration expects. Not to mention the update server access.

During the last months a lot happened inside the RunUO community, we have no personal issues or hard feelings with anyone, for real, and we hope you guys believe it because it is the truth. We also expect the Ultima Online community to remain supportive to our product, because it is not a big deal, we just changed names.

Why a new name?

We created UOSteam in order to have control over our product. As we decided to dettach from RunUO, a new name became necessary because Ryan owns the name "AssistUO" and it's respective website domain.

Conclusion

Again, it is not about an active development/new community all we said before still stands, we are just going to release a stable version and we may (or not) release trivial/minor updates from time to time"

I can attest that Ryan is not the best admin of anything.  As for UO Steam vs UOAssist?  I have uo assist loaded and have used it extensivly in the past.  However other than being familure with it there is absolutly nothing that Razor cannot do that UOAssist/UOSteam cant do.  Infact I would probably say Razor is much more powerful in macros.  If you really know what your doing and use Razor to its fullest you can actually totally AFK play UO in any player type and any environment.  Most of us however are not real good at Razor so its mostly something to set up simple macros on.  UOAssist and Razor both have the ability to create a no risk play style if used at the pro level.  Just saying!!
