Roleplay Discussion / Leaving Lakeshire
August 04, 2009, 09:48:16 AM
Alan read the message again, he couldn't believe his eyes. It seemed that his enemies had made a political mistake of enormous consequences and had all been expelled from the court of the Duke. This meant that Alan was being recalled back to the Duke's side. He looked out the window of his office. This place here in Lakeshire had been his home for nearly 18 months, when he had left the Duchy he was told it was for good. He had done much good here since he had arrived, but he had been thinking of a way to make these people stand on their own for a while. Many of them such as Link and Viskaroth were strong warriors who needed little or no guidance. All of them had good hearts and the best of intentions. Yes, Lakeshire would be fine without him. That night Alan finished packing the rest of his belongings into two saddle bags to go on his pack horse, he was leaving at dawn the next day. Sleep was hard to find that night, and his dreams were troubled. Livorin visited him and reminded him of their deal and that is would be completed eventually. Mother also visited him in his dreams as she had before. His enemies it seemed were glad he was leaving. He was fine with that both of them had their power broken and were very limited in their influence now. He had one other dream as well, a face new to the area. The man was hunched as if with age and wore a cloak and hood that hid his face and features. Now and then he'd catcha  glimpse under the cloak and all he could see was bones. The man was a skeleton. He looked at the Baron and smiled as if to say everything will be fine here. The Baron found that the most unnerving smile he ever saw.

General Discussion / Re: Watch out in Fel

The dwarven hands pounded the stake into the ground. It was placed at a very prominent location at a busy crossroads. Finishing his work Berak turned and placed the sign by the stake and atop it he placed the recently severed head of one of the bandits. The sign read simply: All outcasts will die at the hands of Felucca's Guardians.

Berak picked up his axe and said to no one in particular, Now YOU have been warned.

Events / Re: Turkey Wishbones

Oh no! I totally didn't know we were trying to collect as many as possible. I misunderstood this to be an event where people tried to get 1 to trade in at the end. Ugh, I gave away a few too. Oh well, live and learn.

General Discussion / Re: Where Do We Go From Here?
November 28, 2008, 07:00:05 AM
I just want to take a moment to thank Starfox for his comments. The "other side" was very quiet during the discussion of changing how the vendors work, then got very vocal afterwards. If others are strongly opposed to a major change, I would like to hear from them as well, and if others are strongly in favor of a major change they should speak out also. I am personally sorta on the fence. I want to see the shard do better and there is a good chance making this change could help us. RunUO no longer provides support to 1.0 so the fact of the matter is everyday we fall further and further behind other shards who are able to offer more. The graphics would remain mostly the same, however we'd get new dungeons, new monsters, and be able to make new custom items. I don't know if an arrangement could be made for a player to be able to transfer a few items from the old shard to the new, I am definitely in favor of that, as many of the vets have worked extremely hard to get their things and I know I have at least one item that I worked many, many months to obtain. Again, remember to keep it all friendly here and again thanks Starfox for the great comments.

General Discussion / Re: Where Do We Go From Here?

I justed wanted to chime in with my 2 cents here.

Where are the staffers?: I see staffers almost everyday. I live in an off time zone now, and There are 2 staffers that really make an effort to be around for us, i see them a lot. I suggest if you need GM assitance and can't get it within a day or two, drop a PM on forums and see if one can arrange to meet you. A Euro timezone staffer would be a great addition though.

What has happened to events?: With a low population it is harder to run events. All I can say is if you are a GM and you see 8 or 10 players on, offer one. If you are a player and an event is offered support it!!!

Players are bored....if they just had something more to do...: Well, my suggestion for this is to get a shardwide storyline going. If battles are fought for a reason instead of just senseless killing then it is more fun in my opinion anyways. Take some of the safety out of the game, if an area suddenly became populated with extremely tough monsters, then players will group up and respond.

It's just too hard to log in here. Can't you make it easier to log in?: Actually I personally had an easier time logging into sylvan then about a 1/2 dozen other shards. There are a couple that are very straightforward, but they are POL, not RunUO.

Other players are recruiting for thier shards from Sylvan.: Well, anyone who tries to recruit me will only get themselves reported and banned. This is a two sided issue unfortunately and the fact is if someone can be recruited away, maybe they weren't happy here in the first place.

If only we had a website up that would fix it: I totally agree we need a lot more exposure. A good website is definitely a draw as well as being seen in more places. The problem is Willingness, Ability and Time. Seems everyone has two out of three of these.

How about we switch to RUNUO 2.0 we will have more content?: So now we come to a question of Quality vs. Quantity. A lot of people are saying to make this switch, but I fear that wiping the shard and starting new will be frustrating to some and heartbreaking to others. Perhaps people came here from RunUO 2.0 shards, then going to that will just make us another shard and we will lose our uniqueness. If we had a scriptor who could add customs back into RunUO 2.0 I'd be more in favor of it. I also think our change needs to be more one of style than substance.

Where do we go from here? The answer is simple -  We go in whatever direction Acacia has wanted the shard to go for a long time. The population is at a low right now so impact of changes will be minimal. If we need to get rid of sockets, now is the time. There are many other things we could do as well. Personally, I'd like to see a character class sytem in place. I have seen this on other shards, but never really taken a close look at it. Perhaps making people taking certain classes and limiting them to a select number of skills would be an option, or capping certain skills and make it cost double after that. I know scripting would probably be an issue with that, but that is what I would enjoy. Just think of a party containing a rogue, a fighter, a healer, a mage, and other possible classes. Would be great to see.

Chit-chat / Re: What can 700 billion dollars buy?
November 16, 2008, 03:12:11 PM
Sorry to shed light on things Gyver but between taxes and property taxes and insurance costs of a house, even one that is totally paid of still runs between 15-20k a year for a 100k house. Then you have to add power bill $100 a month, gas bill, average of $75 a month, water bill $30 a month, all this adds up to around 25 to 30k a year, so you'd need to get at least 50k a year to really live comfortable. I once did the math and found I could make it on 2 mil, but 3 mil to have in the bank was a lot nicer....sooooo.....where can I get 3 mil? Oh wait i could be CEO of a failed bank for FOUR days, that's right, some of these guys are making 200 mil a year to screw everything up.

In Ilshenar apparently the GM's enforcers have started roaming the lands, they carry a portion of the GM's essences on them.

Questions, Game Problems and Bugs / Re: Hotmail and Gmail
November 01, 2008, 07:17:02 PM
I'm not having any problems. I have installed all the latest updates, but that doesn't mean yours didn't corrupt when it downloaded or installed. I'd try a restore and set it back a few days and see if that fixes it. Then you could retry to download and install again and if you have the smae problem, go into control panel and turn off auto updates. Me and my wife both installed service pack 3. Worked like a charm for me and totally messed hers up, so *shrugs*.

Anyways, that's my two cents.

General Discussion / Re: The Vendor Changes - Week One
October 23, 2008, 07:08:49 AM
I need to speak up real quick as a crafter here (Durin) I have worked hard to be able to provide the goods I do. Not only that, but my resources I had have been reduced making me work even harder. That being said I set my prices at what I feel my time and effort are worth. If I see someone who is throwing items out there way too cheap, I will likely buy those, mark them up and resell them on my vendor. Stores in reality do this all the time, JC Penny's doesn't manufacture levi's jeans and they certainly don't pay $60 a pair for them. If I have an item that everyone else is selling for less, I have to drop my prices or stop carrying the item. Point is, eventually the market will stabilize, and goods have gotten cheaper. I like it.

Queen Karina, I was looking for a book myself today. I found them on the scribe in Britain, so maybe the one you checked was just out temporarily. I have had other items I couldn't find like bananas, but I managed to use create food to get some. As for the buy all guy, yeah, he probably needs to come back, I hadn't noticed him missing myself, I usually sort my pack and throw the rest in the reward barrel. I wish player scribes could make regular books though, but I'm sure that takes a scriptor.

For myself I'd say  hunters are having to work a bit harder to find the things I need, for my crafter, it's nice I've moved a lot of merchandise this week.
