Problem with UO gateway

When I click on the shard in UO gateway it comes up with a screen saying client.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  any ideas?

This is actually a problem with UO.

Try this out.

It's at the bottom of the first message. Instructions for setting compatibility mode.

Okay that worked, but now it says I can't connect to Ultima Online and to try again in a few moments.  I've tried this many times.  Any suggestions?

Either there's a typo in your settings for sylvan heart or the server is down. I don't think the server is down, though.

Check your settings and make sure there are no typos and no spaces in any of the entries. (spaces will make things not work)

Okay, okay, okay.  I connected, made a character, but the client crashed before I got fully logged in.

Try different compatibility modes. If you've tried 98 already, try 2000. If that doesn't work, try another.

Yeh, I can log in but before anything comes up it says that the client encounters an error, I've tried this with all compatabilities, but 98 is the only one that gets me this far.  This is frustrating.

 >:(  happened to me a few times..i redo my pc lots  here so have to install everything again...what i do when that happens...just uninstall everything to do with uo  and start over..seems to work awrite after dat  lol

I had that problem with my player character when I had to reinstall my UO client.  Do as she suggested and uninstall everything then install the game first and patch up to whatever the suggested patch is (5.0 i think, not 100% sure) THEN do gateway and it should solve your problem
