Hey guys! The new computer is up and running, though I am having to get used to typing on a normal sized key board instead of a laptop, lol. My problem is that I keep crashing right after choosing a character to log in with. I have tried the one click gateway link, and it gives me the same problem! So, I manually set it up, and it patched fine, and I get all the way up to picking a character to log in with, and then it has a "encouterd a problem and needs to close" error! I have searched the forums, but haven't found an answer to this problem. Any ideas would be very much aprreciated! -Ashlee

This sounds familiar to me... but I can't remember a solution.
General advice:
Check how far you are patched with OSI
Make sure you are running both UO and UOGateway in compatibility mode (For windows XP and Vista)
Try to see about running UOGateway as Administrator by creating a shortcut to it, then right clicking the shortcut and going to properties. In there click on the "Compatibility" tab and then find and set it to "run as administrator"... then run UOGateway by using the shortcut.

I'm guessing your problem might have to do with one of the first two suggestions and/or possibly the .NET Framework... but I'm only guessing  :-\

"Make sure you are running both UO and UOGateway in compatibility mode (For windows XP and Vista)"

Can you tell me how to do this? I went into the UO gateway options, but I saw no place to run as admin.

As for patches, I saw on a different forum page that Thane said we can patch all the way up. Is there a different opinion on this and if so, where should I stop the patching at?

Thanks! -Ashlee

I'm not sure anymore about how far we should patch... I think I remember patching all the way, and I seem to remember Thane's post... but that was a while back there. I'm not sure if the more recent patches work with Sylvan or not.

Anywho... about running in compatibility mode:
Right click on the little icon that you click on to bring up UOGateway...
Then go to properties
Then click on the compatibility tab at the top
Then check the box next to "run this program in compatibility mode"
Select windows 98/ME if you can in the drop down menu
Click the "OK" button

Do the same thing to the UO.exe file (that probably looks like the a little UO symbol) in the UO folder where you installed UO into.

Now I would think that... You likely only need to do the "run as admin" stuff if you are not an admin of the computer you are using or are not logged in as an admin already, but anyway...

The the "run as admin" option would be found by...
Right click the UOGateway icon again
Go to "run as..." for XP or "run as administrator" for Vista

Select the admin account for the computer and enter the correct password... if you do not know the password... try just  clicking "OK" after selecting the admin account. If that doesn't work and you don't know the password, then I'm not sure what you can do to run it as admin.

Now I'm just guessing but... if none of the "run as..." options show up for you... then I venture a guess that you only have one account on your computer and you are it and you are the admin already.

Alrighty, I have done all those things, and am still having the same issue. Thanks for walking me through it so well, some times me and the computer don't get along so well, lol, but thankfully I got a new computer, so some of those Ashlee and Computer problems should go away. Got any ideas on the 2.0 framework thing? I don't even know how to go about seeing if I have it! -Ashlee

Abbadon

I believe the version should be one up from what it is originally one - something like 5.0.4.4b or something - not sure of the exact details though :(

Before we go messing with the framework (which I'm beginning to think my frameworks troubles I've seen were with razor more than uogateway)... what version of gateway are you using - the old one or the newer one? Make sure you are using the older one.

You were having troubles with the "no clients found" error earlier, maybe that didn't get completly solved or something...
Make sure you have patched OSI up and also use the old UOGateway and do the edit of the uog.rar file. Might also check to see what version of UO you are using. You should be using ML

ashlee1

That may be the problem, I am using Samuri Empire. I will uninstall that and install ML and give it a try! -Ashlee
