Ok,, im doing it.  Im actually building my first thief ever in uo.  Who knows, maybe some day soon Ill even do a tamer.

Since I have never done a thief anywhere and have no idea what im doing especially here on Sylvan I have one major question. (so far)

I Started a character with 100 lockpick and 100 stealing. I hope this was right.  for the last days i macroed Hide and stealth.  Hide is at 100 and it seems it wont go any farther. Stealth is 120.  There were some other things that went up also.  Below is a list of skills up to now.

Anatomy 120
Focus      120
Healing    120
Hiding     120
Lockpicking 100
Meditaition 120
Stealing    100
Stealth      120

My question is:  What do i do now.  I want to use this character to steal items rares as well as picking treasure chests in dungons and maybe Tmaps also.
Im not sure what to do for skills at this point so im looking for pointers.

I like playing a dexer but I am also familure with a mage.  I have never played a tamer and at this time have no great intrest in it.

So:  Hints? Suggestions?? Comments???  Bring it.
thanks all for yer time in advance.

Ninjitsu and Chiv are good for damage avoidance which is good for thieves who have to use both hands to steal ;)

Ninjitsu has mirror image to avoid damage as well as those handy smoke balls for insta-hiding if I'm not mistaken hehe.
Chivalry has Dispell Evil which can cause monsters to run away from you as if they are scared of you!

Both of these skills also have other spells/abilities that are also useful.

Now for a damage skill...

I'd drop focus first and add one of these selections:

Mage
Magery: 120 - mostly just for summons I guess (since no eval int or inscription) or damage if you use a mage weapon
Parry: 120
Bushido: 120
Just equip a 2-hand weapon. Though you can't really deal damage with it unless it's a mage weapon, it still works for defence!

Mage 2
Magery: 120 - mostly just for summons I guess (since no eval int or inscription) or damage if you use a mage weapon
Music: 120
Peacing or provocation: 120

Melee
Swords, fencing, or macing: 120
Bushido: 120
Parry: 120

Ranged or wrestling
Archery or wrestling: 120
Music: 120
Peacing or provocation: 120

In anticipation of the question "Why music and all that bard stuff?" here's why hehe: It is another defense skill set that can be used without a weapon which again is good for thieves working with bare hands :)

However, if you don't want to mess with all that musical stuff, replace it with tactics and bushido (for archery and I dunno for wrestling lol - maybe focus again?) I guess.

Bah... forgot... all that is too many skill points if you add in the Chiv and Ninjitsu.

Hmm... other idea that include the Chiv and Ninjtisu:

Magery or any of the other main damage skills listed above (like archery, fencing, etc) 120
Chiv 120 (might be hard pressed to reach 120 lol, so you will probably have some extra points to play with elsewhere)
Ninjitsu 120

Well why didn't you ask me directly?  And using my own term too tsk tsk old man.
My roach thief build goes like this:
Healing
Chivalry
<weapon skill>
Anatomy
Lockpicking
Tactics
Hiding
Stealth
Stealing
Parry

When you get to 1500 skill cap add:
Bushido
Ninjutsu 60
Resist spells 60
Detect Hidden 60

HAHA,,I would ask ya directly but most of the time when im on your not.  Im excited to get this guy up and running.  So a couple questions on your build.
Why detect hidden?  In what instance would that be used.
Why resist at 60?  Does it make a big difference from 0 resist to 60 resist?
How does one get from 1200 skills to 1500?
I know 0 about the Ninjutsu skill.  It dosent need magery? What type of skills are available at the 60 level and are they dependable?

Rei

Detect hidden is for certain creatures that like to hide.  Resist spells at 60 to help with some of these necro based critters that like to freeze you as well as reducing spell damage from general monsters.  You get from 1200 to 1500 skills by donating/VS or vet rewards (I paid my wife for deeds).  And as far as ninjutsu the only spell worth a tick is animal form, namingly frog form.  Can poison any creature and has some hidden benefits I won't go into here in public but feel free to pm me.  Ninjutsu also does not need any magery.
