Is it worth it to work on magic resist? It's been a long while since I was here and I don't recall how resist works on this shard.

I think it depends on your character build overall.  There are many variables that come into play when discussing resist.  your armor, your physical resist, Your stats, what do you plan to do with your character, be it support or solo hunting or fishing, minning bla bla.
Cypress is the king of answering resist questions by the way or misty if you ever run into her.

In short the most important aspect for Resisting Spells is that it reduces the grief you'll be getting from curses, hexxes and some other types of debuff. Getting cursed by a weak mob is something you can ignore but getting cursed by some uber mobs can quite literally reduce all your primary stats by 100+ for 30 or so seconds until it either runs out of duration or is cleansed but cleansing it requires time and mana. If you are a dex only character this can be lethal but regardless it is no walk in the park for any other character type

As for the secondary effect of Resisting Spells, this is the contribution it as to your actual resistances, however something to note is that any serious character that is likely to either be fighting or in risky situations (like maybe a box looter) is going to already want to have as close to an all 70s set as they can get. This means that you can't just be relying on Resisting Spells for some "free" resistances as they do not stack with resistances acquired from equipment. If you have 31 fire resistance on your equipment and 30 from Resisting Spells then you have in effect got 31 fire resistance as equipment takes priority once it overtakes the amount from resisting spells.

Raising the skill is easy, just cast the lowest level debuff you can on yourself over and over, so just cast things like Pain Spike, Clumsy...etc. I say the lowest tier ones as it's cheap and quick and will take you all the way to 120 in a reasonable amount of time and is doable through +magery items even if you have no magery skill to begin with.

It is up to you in the long run as to if it is worth it for your character, as you'd have to measure it up against the other skills on that character.
