Celandra ran through the woodlands, tears streaming down her golden cheeks.
It mattered little to her that there were monsters in the area, in fact, she barely even noticed as she barrelled past them, her mind awhirl with the shock of what had just occured.

'I no longer think we should see each other romantically,' he had said.
No explanations, no discussions, not even a hint of sorrow.  Just a flat statement.

It was true that he had been different since his ordeal with the deamon.  He had been having bad dreams, had not once asked her to stay overnight as she had done before, and had even disappeared without word for a while, but she had not seen this coming.
Apparantly, he had been back for a time, but he had not called on her.  When she had eventually caught up with him, that was what he had told her.
She had thought everything would work out right in the end, that the dreams would fade, that the lich would die and life would get better for everyone.  How wrong she had been!

Stupid, she berated herself as she fled the scene of so much hurt.  Stupid, stupid, stupid!

She had thought that he loved her.
He had told her that he did... and like the fool she was, she had believed him.
Now, after everything...
After having almost causing her own mother to fade in an effort to save him, after having opened her heart to him (a thing she had never thought to do again since the loss of her husband), after having defended him to those who had called him traitor and suffering the taunts of those who had not understood... after all that, he chose to leave her.

But of course, a tiny voice in the depths of her mind said. Why would he want to stay? You won't fight, you rarely argue. You're meek, mild, vulnerable... what would any warrior see in you? Foolish girl!

Her short legs carried her at a great speed beneath the forested canopy, but she did not notice the beauty of the nature around her, paid no heed to the way the golden sunlight dappled the undergrowth and the sweet whispers of the wind in the leaves.  She knew only the misery of her broken heart.

Oh, Gorn had wanted something from her, that much was true.
