Crafters and Gathering

Greetings all,

I've started a crafter, and well, gathering is causing him more then a few deaths. He has a bit of Magery, and is soon to GM his running skill. But that limits his ability to get wood/ore.

Sooo, what do other crafters do? Did you dedicate a character to gathering your resources, or ... ?

Thanks to all,
Hay

Depends, really. Some take weapons skills and some healing, the critters spawned by ressource macroing are not so hard. Others take taming and pets to follow them. Others summon creatures with magery. Having a golemt is a good solution too. Use your imagination ;)

Well, Hay, my crafter does all her own mining/lumberjacking.  She has 120 magery so whenever she is out chopping down trees, she just calls forth a fire elly to protect her from those gruesome trees.  As for the mining aspect, she hardly ever encounters anything too tough and with her Swords of Prosperity (tokuno greater arty) she can take most of the beasties she comes across.  Occasionally, she has to call on her running skill as well, but probably not nearly as often as you do.  From what I know, most crafters have high magery to help them survive, and some have some basic weapon skills as well.

Hope this helps some.

Yes that helps, I'll just work up my magery sooner then I intended. And look into getting a weapon that uses his magery skill. I wanted to have as many of the crafting skills on one character that I could. This meant not having any fighting skills to speak of.

I'll rethink my skill set a bit, I appreciate the input.

Thanks again,
Hay

I have 2 crafters and neither fight with anything but magery so I could take all the craft skills. I have a miner/lumberjack who can also hunt smaller things  like orcs-rats-lizards for the extra leather or whatever. Then I have a somewhat  fighter/hunter who gets the trolls and a few other things and  then a tamer who does whatever else is needed. None are finished in their skills yet tho so Im still working on things. Some day I'll get there :)

Flint

all ya need is a lil chiv 50-60  that covers healing and sacre journey and 60 or so in swords and tactics worked fine for me
Flint the Dwarf
Raist

Have chiv on all 5 but only 3 have legendary weapon skill :)

Just a note Hay, I currently have no fighting/chiv/bushido skills on my crafter.  I wanted to be able to do as many of the crafts on one chara as possible and I did just that.  With the help of the quest items for each craft with the exception of smithing my crafter has 120 in: tailoring, smithing, mining, alchemy, inscription, carpentry (soon), tinkering, lumberjacking.  I will soon be moving the lumberjacking entirely to sockets.  I also have 120 magery.  In order to do haircuts I skilled up to 90 healing and then socketed the remaining 30 pts.  I also have eval int up to 60 right now and will push that to 120 to help with magery and scribe once I socket my lumberjacking to 120.  I aslo have 45 pts in music so that I can craft instruments (but might drop this in the future as noone buys instruments since they drop so often).  As it is the only thing I can think of that my crafter cannot do is fletch and cook, which I have on my fisher.  Hope this helps.  If you want any more info just chat me up ingame and I can give you more specific info as this is just from memory right now.

My crafter has no "combat" skills, and is quite apt at gathering, you do NOT need chiv or fighting :).

If you are wanting to be a crafter all in one, then you are going to be a carpenter, for carpentry you NEED Magery so magery is a crafting skill :)..... for inscription you need magery for the exceptional spellbooks....once again Magery is a crafting skill.

Just take a bit of magery....keep some scrolls of summoning whatever critter you like handy....and no problems out on your own. Well Unless you do any PvP area and bandits hit...thats a differant story.

btw, scrolls cast 2 levels lower so an 8th cast at the skill needed for a 6th...so if you dont want to gm your magery you dont have to. This also allows heals, ports and food when your out in the woods, all without having to worry about the combat skills :)
I may not agree with you, I may argue and completely disagree with you. However, I will support and fight for your right to state your views and opinions. It is only through the exchange of ideas that learning, and growth are achieved. Arguments and debates are opportunities for growth.

Why not make a gathering character and let your crafter be crafting only.  This way you can have one character that does all crafting.  Your gathering character can take up swords, chiv or whatever you desire along with mining and lumberjacking.  These build strength which every fighter needs anyway.  Just bring all you ore and boards home and drop in chest for your crafter....Just a thought... ;D

becuase crafting and gathering skills build off each other... for instance you need Mining for Stonecrafting, but yet it uses carpentry skills to craft. I DO have a crafter that has all the crafting skills, except High Fishing, and cooking :). I have always found the requirement to learn how to be a fighter to have to go out and chop down trees, or hack into a mountin, a bit off. Since Magery is required if you want to be a true crafter, it works just as well without worrying about all the fighting skills.

To your point directly, there are plenty of people that have seperate chars, but really it does make it hard to be a complete crafter, becuase the skills are dependant on each other. The same reason you need magery if you wish to be a complete scribe, or carpenter.

Actually I dont think Lumberjacking is needed for anything other then harvesting, but mining is.

I put lumber jack on my cook and flect who also has swords, but the one thing everyone has forgot lumber jack with swords gives an extra 30% damage as it's also a bonus to the fighter skill as well as a harvest skill, I'm like Fae my crafter has as much skills as far as crafter as i could get without cutting into making 12 skills compared to 10 at 120.

I don't understand you all... I thought this is a RP shard? How can you max in all the crafts? Why not max in some of them and do some good RP bartering with another character? I think we are here to have fun. We are not here to make as much money as possible.. therefore we have RL, no? :D

I have an aspiring ranger who wants to become a druid. At the moment I am hunting a lot with her, because I need to destress from home/work, but I will also try to have fun with the people around and do some RPing on talking to animals and stuff :)

Forest Rithik

RP is accepted but not enforced, I have a Crafter who specialises in all the things I need for my other characters (all hunters of different types). This shard was founded by Powergamers who also did RP on the side, I have no worries with someone being on this shard to make as much ingame profit as they can for personal challenge, it is no different than if they Role Played as a Massive Capitalist or Materialist to be honest. It is no ones place to tell another player how they can or can't play especially when they aren't breaking any rules but then again that is just my opinion *Shrugs*.

I don't want to tell people what they have to do, I just wanted to tell MY opinion... ;)
