Hey all, I have a basic question. I am well aware of the elementals that spawn when mining but how hard are they to kill (for a newb miner with basic fighting skills)? I have decided to take up macing to protect myself but I am still rather noobish.
Thanks in advance  ;)

There are 3 things that spawn:

  • An Elemental
  • A Lesser Elemental
  • A Rat

The Elemental isn't to bad.  With 70 resist he hits for like 5-10 and has somewhere like 300 hit points.   The Lesser Elemental hits for 1 or 2 with 70 resist, but seem to have amazingly high hit points.  Somewhere around 500 or would seem about right.  The rats are rats.  You one or two shots before they die and get some diamonds to boot.

Just try to get max physical resist and some magery (with protection) or some weapon skill, tacts, anat, healing, and you'll be fine.  You don't seem to get them for a long time anyway, so don't worry to much while raising the skill.

While mining with my miner I have come across the rat, the mongbat (lesser elemental I think), a regular earth elemental and occasionally when mining for special ores you will get a special ore type elemental. I am not too sure on this but just as it is harder to mine the  more precious metals it is the same for the strength of the special ore elementals.

With the rats and mongbats being the easiest to slay, then earth elemental (iron ore based), a little harder, continuing up to the valorite elemental (valorite ore based), being  the hardest. If your fighting skills match your mining skills when you start out then you probably won't see much of the special ore elementals at all. Just make sure that your fighting skills increase as your mining skill does or you might find yourself in trouble.

I also want to note that the elementals that spawn while your mining are tagged with your name. In the past there were issues where players were leaving them behind and not killing them. And it made it harder for players who came along that didn't have the skill to kill them. With the tagged elementals the staff were able to tell who had left them behind and would place a statue of their elemental in the meadow. So if you find you cannot kill what you spawn, just don't continue to other locations and keep spawning them and running away. One isn't bad, but several will get you into trouble.

The special elementals can only be gotten with the use of Gargoyle Pick Axes I believe.  So if you're just mining with regular tools don't worry to much. :)

Thanks guys!   ;D  You're great.
I have another question now. Can only Admins place houses?

Knossos

Yup, just put in a page and they will show up and put a house in.  Your first house (medium or smaller) is free, so just page when you've found your spot, clear it, and wait a few minutes.  There is a sticky in Announcements (I think) about house creation and the rules.

*laughs* ummm special things do pop out at you when you are mining no matter what yer leve...... some are not so nice....... best to take up a weapon........ miners would not have gone out without weapons to guard their mines now would they? *giggles*

Knossos

It's true, but I think because you fail quite often while mining they don't appear as they only show up on a successful mining. *shrug* Who knows for sure, just reporting what I saw *grin*

Flint

I learned real fast at the start of my mining career to mine near a town so i could call upon guards to fell the nasty's i mined up. then got minimum  fighting skills ( around 70 ish swords 20 or so parry 40 anat.  30 parry and 50 chiv) i also augmented some of these skills with jewelry to bump em up a hair.

Who knows what might be found in the deep, dark depths of the land!

*thinks about what the dwarves dug up in Lord of the Rings  :o  That wasn't so pretty...*

Well, this is an RP shard... So, do the RP thing.

Don't raise your weapon skills. Instead, hire a body guard!
