I came from the pay shard of Atlantic.  That is when uogateway was the thing to use. ( and still do )
BUT as time goes on and things upgrade ( and I hate to do it too ) To stay ahead and become better ( there will always be a new "Windows" that will come on a new computer. ( god I hate Vista ) One computer at home runs 98se and I love it. The laptop runs xp. ( memory hog ) Just for programs sake it might be time to run the latest n greatest if we can. Then again I use uogateway and windows 98. 
That is my $0.05 worth. I like things just the way they are.

( something with hi yield. Like 4-5%) If you do not go nuts you could live off the interest and never touch the prince able. About $25-$30k.

Oh, don't try and load up the pay UO.  Some have no problems but for many other, patching too far causes problems.  I don't know what to suggest. I don't know if Marlenus has other suggestions or not.

maybe dump it and reload it with out getting the uo patches? just get the gateway ones?

There is a post on this client crash.... This is from the Shard Basic section on getting connected.
Hopefully this will help you.

If you're using Windows XP and your client crashes immediately after startup, here are some instructions contributed by Damira

-Go to the sylvan heart settings in UO Gateway.
-Note the "directory" address there. This is where your client is located.
-Go to that client, right click, select properties.
-Go to "comptatibility", click the "run the program in compatibility mode for", and select Win98.
-Go back to gateway and lauch Sylvan Heart. No need to reset your patches.

Get the same thing. It loads up on the pay sights ok. Let me try one more thing. nope that did not work ether. 

Well, I have tried updating my UO, and that didn't work. I am trying to come back to sylvan heart, and I know my account hasn't been deleted. UOgateway freezes up after I choose the shard and put my password in. Any one else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

I am also having problems. I get all the way to the screen where I select the guy I want to play and then get a micro bs error message "client.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience." Stupid windows. Any ideas ?
